The music of La Machine is warm and personal and reaches back to its traditional French roots. The ensemble of the hurdy-gurdy and bagpipe reinforces the authenticity of the style. The double bass and percussions layer in a rhythmically swaying groove of Afro-Cuban beats. The result is a fusion that places La Machine at the forefront of today’s music.
"This is the second album by a young Central French band that plays their dance music in a most exhilarating and driving manner. The combined lead is provided by the bagpipes of Julien Barbances and the hurdy-gurdy of Gregory Jolivet. These two have also written the tunes that intersperse the traditional items. To describe these two instruments playing together as 'powerful' would be understating the case. Some light and shade is provided on thre tracks where Julien switches to fiddle and is very much mixed in the foreground with the hurdy-gurdy drones held back. Also they are joined on a couple of tracks by David Lecrot on diatonic accordeon and one of these is the album's outstanding track, a schottische called Sunshine. The incredible swing on this, on all dance tunes, derives from the way the whole is underscored by the hand percussion of marc Riou. (...) The fiddle also plays an important role in the best of the songs. The delightfully cool rendition of the traditional song Je viens à vous providing a gripping solo after the singing."
